Whether you have been in the business industry for months or years and trying to figure out how to market your business, lets just say there is a strategy behind it including: Target audience, budget, how to effectively reach and engage with your target audience, buyer behavior etc.

It comes with a strategy of being able to get your message across to your audience with what your company represents and stands for. You need to make sure you get your message across at the right time so it can reach the correct audience.

Commercials, Billboards, Radio ads, magazine ads etc have been around for years, in 2010 is when there was a huge increase in “digital & social media marketing” because of smart phones and apps surpassing traditional marketing in many sectors due to its ability to offer real time, precise, real time tracking and personalized tracking.

The big question that comes first is: What is marketing? And How digital marketing helps in business growth? Well, The definition of marketing in the dictionary is: The activity or business of promoting and selling products or services, including market research and advertising. Digital marketing will help your business with growth in many ways, below there will be lists including how marketing will help your company with every aspect that goes into marketing for businesses.

Digital marketing effectively began in 1990, when the Archie search engine was created as an index for FTP (File Transfer Protocol) sites. In the 1980s the storage capacity of computers was already large enough to store huge volumes of customer information.

Like everything else in the world as time goes by, marketing started to evolve with the changes happening throughout the world. For many years marketing stayed the same, everyone knew how to promote their products, what to do to get their audiences attention and what call to action they would need to hook their customers into their business.

Marketing includes:

  • Research
  • Branding
  • Strategy
  • Communication
  • Customer experience

Comparing both types of marketing, this website: https://online.mason.wm.edu/blog/traditional-marketing-vs-digital-marketing provided great insight on both types of marketing as seen below.

Traditional marketing Vs. Digital Marketing:

Traditional marketing is any type of offline advertising for example: flyers for any event or company business, direct- response mail, Super-bowl commercials, or an advertisement in a magazine.

Traditional marketing includes:

  • Print Advertising: compromises advertisements in newspapers, magazines & journals
  • Broadcast Advertising: refers to radio and television commercials
  • Telemarketing: is the practice of calling prospective customers on the phone to solicit interest in a promotion or service.
  • Direct Mail: Encompasses sales and marketing materials sent directly to the consumer, often unsolicited. It’s also commonly referred to as junk mail.

Digital marketing refers to all forms of marketing that takes place online. This includes sponsored Facebook posts, banner ads , Youtube videos and email newsletters. Many times informational blog posts fall into this category of marketing.

Common forms of Digital Marketing:

The following forms of digital marketing are the most commonly used forms of digital marketing, these forms are utilized to have your customers engage online.

  • Pay-per-Click (PPC): Advertising in which marketers bid on select keywords and phrases. The website displays the winner’s ad, and the marketer only pays for each user’s click on it.
  • Email Marketing: Essentially direct mail marketing for the digital age. Marketers send emails to prospective customers to raise awareness, drive engagement or accomplish other goals of the marketing campaign.
  • Content marketing: a less direct approach that lets brands engage with consumers by providing value, usually in the form of education. It often takes the form of an informative blog post or video.
  • Search engine optimization (SEO): the practice of applying methods to websites and web pages so they appear higher on search engine results pages (SERPs). SEO is often used in conjunction with content marketing to drive organic search traffic to the content.

Becoming a marketer I have now realized that in today’s world of marketing and in the business industry that not all companies, small businesses, entrepreneurs, or even local service providers understand the importance of marketing correctly for their businesses.

Why Is Marketing Important for a Business?

 Builds Brand Awareness:

  • Helps customers recognize and remember a business
  • Creates trust and familiarity
  • You are exposing your business for new customers

 Drives Sales and Revenue

  • Lead generation
  • Nurturing through email marketing
  • Conversion strategies

 Creates Competitive Advantage

  • Differentiation
  • Positioning
  • Unique value proposition

Builds Customer Relationships and Loyalty

  • Retention is cheaper than acquisition
  • Personalization and community building

  Supports Long-Term Business Growth

  • Sustainable pipelines
  • Brand equity
  • Market expansion

All of this helps your business out and what blows my mind is that in 2026 there are still small businesses that are wanting to grow their business but don’t market their business well.

For instance I have noticed that the majority of hispanic small business owners are not marketing their businesses well to where it brings them new customers and make that customer loyalty and returning customers that will benefit them in the long run.

It will drive so much success in your business if you put yourself out there and take a chance, they are slowly starting to evolve with digital marketing such as social media marketing, Tiktok promotional videos, or facebook business pages to grow their following on social media.

So many small businesses are shocked at what social media marketing can do for their small business, what an influencer on social media reviewing their business or services and leaving a good review and it reaching hundreds to thousands of people around the world via social media, it builds their customer retention, brings familiarity to the industry they’re in and most importantly they build a great community around them that will show support in time of need.

The cost of not marketing is when businesses struggle because businesses rely only on word-of-mouth, inconsistent revenue, low visibility, competitors taking market share and stagnation. Like the saying says “Marketing is not optional, Invisibility is expensive.”

Marketing is an Investment, NOT an Expense:

  •  ROI: your return on investment (ROI) is a simple way to measure an investment’s profitability, showing how much profit you made (or lost) compared to the initial cost, usually as a percentage, helping you see how efficiently your money worked. It answers: “For every dollar I put in, how many cents did I get back?”. A positive ROI means profit; a negative one means a loss, and a higher percentage is generally better.
  • Long-term brand value: the sustainable, measurable financial and strategic worth a brand accumulates through reputation, customer loyalty, and trust over many years. It drives higher pricing power, reduces market volatility, and fosters repeat business, acting as a crucial, intangible asset for sustained growth.
  • Customer lifetime value: the total projected revenue a business can expect from a single customer throughout their entire relationship. It is calculated by multiplying the average purchase value by the purchase frequency and average customer lifespan.

There are so many resources available to help you look into marketing for your business, so many pros and how it will bring growth to your business, all things marketing may seem like a lot but once you get the information you’re looking for and get a breakdown it will all make sense on how it will benefit your business.
